To provide new accommodations for snowbirds and RVers near the Florida Gulf Coast, Zeman RV Resorts recently announced the 'soft opening' of its Southern Sands Signature RV resort in Arcadia. With select sites already occupied and a series of amenities scheduled to be complete by the end of May, the official grand opening is in June, and Southern Sands is currently accepting seasonal reservations for 2024/2025. 

Located in DeSoto County, this is one of four Signature RV Resorts by Zeman in Florida and is east of the Peace River and northeast of Charlotte Harbor. The resort reflects the brand's business model of providing manicured common grounds, gathering spaces, sports courts (including five pickleball courts), spacious landscaped sites, and inclusive guest services and facilities for practically every need. 

All 184 over-size, big-rig sites have crushed-shell pads, 100-amp power, plus ample space for outdoor furniture, a towed vehicle, and other essentials. They will be upgraded to pads with pavers by the fall of 2024. Utilities such as water, sewer, power, cable wifi and trash are included in the rate and annual bookings are available. 

One of the key highlights is the layout of its grounds. The facilities, amenities, and services are in one central location, providing easy access to the tiki pavilion, beach entry swimming pool/spa, laundry facilities, mail kiosk, as well as the clubhouse - complete with a fitness center, lounge with personal liquor lockers, and game room with billiard and card tables. All have spacious, modern interiors, trendy appointments and the utmost comfort. 

Although specific daily activities and regular gatherings are actively being planned for the year, expect scheduled themed events, arts/crafts workshops, poolside socials and more. Access to local excursions and tours in Arcadia (and beyond) is available through the Resort Office.

The Attractions and Services in Arcadia

What makes an RV destination appealing for any time - and in any season - are services and attractions in the local communities. About 20 km (13 mi) from the resort, Arcadia has a population of a little less than 10,000 residents but essentials are available at pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens, grocery stores including Publix with a series of dining options and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. 

Arcadia is located in 'Florida Cowboy Country' so it's only natural that the city hosts a series of rodeos in March, August and October. One of the main events is the All-Florida Championship Rodeo, which attracts the top riders from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) circuit. Other annual, monthly and weekly themed events include holiday celebrations, car shows, and farmer's markets.

Events aside, canoeing and kayaking on the nearby Peace River, airboat and wildlife tours, and browsing Arcadia's Historic Downtown District are all easily accessible, anytime.
