We love the Greater Palm Springs area but couldn’t find an RV park that was close and affordable until we stumbled across the Shadow Hills RV Resort. While the location isn’t as prime as some other choices and the list of amenities isn’t as long, you also aren’t paying for features you might not use.
This is a smaller park just north of I-10 in Indio, CA. There aren’t many services within walking distance but it is a quick drive to a Walmart Supercenter, Home Depot, the Coachella Valley National Wildlife Refuge and golf courses.
The cities of Indio, La Quinta, and Palm Desert can satisfy any desire for shopping and dining with museums, art, annual events, and entertainment. If that isn’t enough, Palm Springs is just 30 minutes away.

The most desirable sites have shade and are located waterside.
In the park, you’ll find a heated pool, jacuzzi, ponds, a fitness centre, pet stations, as well as a clubhouse, game room, and a library, to name a few of the handy facilities. What you won’t find are sports courts for pickleball, tennis, shuffleboard, and basketball. There are also restrooms and showers but laundry facilities are not available.
The community outdoor fire pit looked like a fantastic place to socialize with other guests. Although the amenities are few and are a little dated, it is a friendly-staffed, family-operated, tidy park with paved and grass sites.
In addition to RV and tent camping, you or your guests can choose to stay in a park model cottage, restored vintage trailer or teepee. The monthly fee for December is $1,499 (USD) while fees from January through April are $1,999 (USD)/month. Keep in mind that the RV park is very popular during Coachella and Stagecoach festivals in April so book extra early if you plan on visiting during those events.

The inviting community firepit is perfect for sharing your adventures with new friends.
Cons
Its proximity to I-10 and the rail line means it isn’t the quietest park in the valley, so we wouldn’t recommend it for light sleepers. Although they say there is WiFi throughout the park, we (and other RVers) found it poor and difficult to connect. Also, make sure you have an economical US data plan to access email.
With the right planning to visit the park, Indio, and the surrounding area, you’ll find plenty to experience during your winter stay. We suggest booking early to select your site if you want some shade as treed sites are limited.
