Follow the Sun - Desert Trails RV Park and Golf Course is where the sun spends the winter!
Follow the sun to Desert Trails RV Park and Golf Course in El Centro, CA. Spend the days relaxing, hiking, fishing, hunting, exploring and golfing! Desert Trails is located around a gorgeous 9-hole executive golf course with four beautiful lakes. If you fall in love with staying here, don’t worry; they are open year round. It’s a great place to meet new friends and the staff is here to ensure you have a memorable experience.
The golf course offers a wide variety of memberships as well as punch cards for golf and for the driving range. Carts are available for rent or you can pay trails fees and use your own cart. Desert Trails sits 50’ below sea level giving it the most sunshine of any area in the county. There’s so much sunshine that there’s league golf Tuesday through Friday from the first of November right through to March. The golf course is open year round with a lighted driving range that’s open until 10 o’clock in the evening. Don’t worry if you forgot something, the Pro-Shop has a snack bar with beer, wine, golf supplies and club rentals.
When you aren’t golfing, make sure to get in some quality relaxation time in their 30’ x 60’ heated pool, soak in the 3,500-gallon hot tub, or just sit and relax with a book.
This pet friendly RV park has 404 sites, of which 387 are full hook-up. They even have park models for rent here. All are one-bedroom, one-bath units with a queen size hide-a-bed, chair and queen sized bed. The kitchen is fully functional with microwave, stove, refrigerator, toaster and coffeepot, cooking utensils, dishes, pots and pans and glassware.
Once you’re settled in, get to know your neighbours and join some of the other guests for a game of pickleball, horseshoes, shuffleboard or billiards. During the winter months they have bingo, card games, art and paint classes, quilting and crafts. Head over to the pool for some water volleyball, water aerobics or exercise classes.
There’s plenty to see and do in the area. Here’s a partial list:
Check out the world famous Imperial Sand Dunes area 50 km (30 mi) to the east. It has several off road areas and attracts over 200,000 off road enthusiasts on holiday weekends.
Arizona is a short 80 km (50 mi) drive from El Centro and San Diego is a little under two hours away. Plenty to see and do for day trips.
Desert Trails is located a mere 20 km (12 mi) from the Mexican border. Head down to Los Algodones (a Mexican border town between Yuma and El Centro) that caters to snowbirds throughout the entire southwest for dentistry, glasses and prescription medicines. Medical Tourism in Mexicali, Mexico, provides state of the art medical care, which can amount to an 80% savings over costs in the US.
There are loads of great events here too.
September 19 is El Grito de Indepencia where the city of El Centro and the Mexican Consulate office celebrates Mexican Independence day with cultural music, authentic cuisine and artesian merchandise for sale.
From September 24-27 is the 3rd Annual Imperial Valley SCORE International Road Race. This is a 400 km (250 mi) race and that includes all classes from dirt bikes through trophy trucks.
In November, get your cowboy on at the Brawley Cattle Call PRCA Rodeo on November 14 and 15th. The Cattle Call Rodeo starts with a traditional rough and tough Wild Horse Race, followed by six PRCA events including Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, Tie Down Roping, Team Roping and the ever popular Bull Riding.
On December 4, the community comes together for the Christmas Tree Lighting and Street fair with music from local choirs. From the end of February to early March there’s the California Mid-winter Fair and Fiesta. Rodeos, art exhibits, bird shows, music and a turkey stampede are yours to experience.
It’s so nice here even the US Navy’s Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team winters here. They arrive in January to begin their intense training, then put on the first air show of the season in mid-March.
Whenever you choose, you can pop over to Yuma, Palm Springs, or the Salton Sea. Watch birds, explore museums, go on a farm tour, shop or spend an evening out on the town. When all is said and done, come back at relax at Desert Trails, your home away from home.
