When you sit back to design and build a luxury motorcoach resort, or any luxury accommodation for that matter, location is a paramount consideration even before you lay out the pools, tennis courts, waterfalls and fountains. Which is why Bob Lee, founder of Country Coach Motor Homes, chose Indio, California for the Desert Shores Resort.
Lounging by your hot tub outside your 1200 sq ft casita, you can contemplate which one of the 120 golf courses you might play, here in the Golf Capital of the World, or which restaurant you might dine at in this world-renowned vacation destination; which includes Palm Springs, Palm Desert as well as Indio. But then again perhaps it’s a better day for a walk or a hike through the storied Joshua Tree National Park or a 5,000 ft tram ride up into San Jacinto State Park where in a magical way you feel like you’re hiking in Switzerland while gazing down at the Sahara.
It’s hands-down the most unique and luxurious resort in the U.S explains on-site licensed Real Estate Agent, Barb Gilfoy. “Extensive landscaping, beautiful clubhouses with new additions, a rec room with a wide screen television, and a fireplace are just a few features you’ll find at Desert Shores.”
“There are many Canadians who own lots here,” Gilfoy says. “Our lots are fee-simple, which means you own the lot and have a small interest in the common area as well.”
With 65 acres of land, the resort ensures that every owner has waterfront property, plus a 1200 square foot Casita with garage, full kitchen, full bath and a hobby room. “Your motorcoach is parked on-site and is essentially used as the bedroom and extended living quarters.
There’s also a large fitness centre on the property, a community pool and hot tub, tennis court, and a trailer storage area. “Despite the fact there is a community pool and hot tub, many owners opt to have their own private pool and hot tub built on their lot,” Gilfoy says. “In terms of entertainment, within the park itself we often have pot luck dinners, live entertainment and - a local favourite – the Casita Crawl, which involves owners cruising from motorcoach to motorcoach by golf cart to enjoy a cocktail and Hors d’oeuvres with neighbours.”
With 24-hour security at this exquisite gated community, owners can rest easy knowing their belongings and their loved ones are safe. “During winter months the average daytime temperature is between 70 and 80 degrees,” Gilfoy says, “and the evenings are comfortable in the low 40s.”
Its central historic and panoramic desert location offers tons of activities in the surrounding area - generally within a two-hour drive. “We’re a leisurely two-hour drive from Los Angeles and there are numerous world-class events, including PGA tournaments, the Women’s Indian Wells Tennis Tournament, The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, Palm Springs Film Festival and many others. As well, there are five area casinos, live theater, and major music event venues - all a short drive away.
There are 141 oversized lots (roughly 60’ x 120’) surrounded by 60-acres of elaborate landscaping, feature waterfalls and small lakes, streams and islands - every lot features a waterfront motorcoach pad.
According to Barb, “There is on-site financing available... In fact, many of what would otherwise be our ‘cash buyers’ choose to get a loan because bank rates are so low it makes more sense.”
