SoftStartRV
Words by Perry Mack
As summer heats up it’s worth reminding everyone who doesn’t have an RV A/C Soft Start that this is a great time to get one. We installed ours in 2021 and were instantly relieved with cool air while running on a 15-amp household circuit. The A/C also started using a tiny inverter generator with 2000 starting watts. Unfortunately, it only had 1600 running watts which wasn’t enough to keep it running – if we only had just a little bit more power.
If you’re a DIYer you’ll be glad to know that the new SoftStartRV is even easier to install. It’s still not plug and play as there is so many different AC models in RV’s, but they have made the device 42% smaller, which allows you to more easily find a home for it inside your roof top AC unit, and made the install less complex with a 6-step no-cut, no splice install. They continue to offer easy to understand schematics as well as online and live customer support to walk you through any question you have getting the job done.
This is now the smallest unit in the industry. If you have two air conditioners, you’ll need to install one SoftStart in each, but then you can run two A/C’s on just a 30-amp circuit.
