Known as ‘The Sunniest City on Earth,’ Yuma, AZ, offers temperate, warm weather all year, making it a perfect snowbird destination to visit and escape the cold winters of the north and northeast. Nestled between Phoenix, AZ and San Diego, CA, on I-8, Yuma is easily accessible via RV. With sunny skies 91 percent of the year, this southwestern escape is a premiere winter getaway for those seeking a small-town feel with exciting attractions.
Yuma History and Attractions
One of the reasons to visit Yuma is to experience the Yuma Territorial Prison Park and Museum. Bursting with history and preserved artifacts, this is a favourite attraction among visitors and locals alike. Self-guided tours include discovering original buildings and prisoner cells that date back to 1875.
However, a visit to Yuma wouldn’t be complete without seeing the Colorado River, and the cooler months are the perfect time to take in all of the parks along its shore, which includes the East and West Wetlands that offer scenic views and easily accessible hiking trails. Also popular is the Colorado River State Historic Park with its stories of the river’s past, present, and future as well as the Yuma Quartermaster Depot. This army supply depot operated from 1865 to 1883 and served all of the forts in Arizona territory during the Indian wars.
