Nevada Road Trip
Travel Nevada
From authentic Cowboy Country to giant mountains and the flats of Area 51, Nevada is built for summertime road warriors. The Great Basin Desert that stretches across Nevada used to be an inland ocean. Today, Nevada’s highways criss-cross it, taking you from Reno and Lake Tahoe, down to Las Vegas, over to the mountains and caves in the east, and the original Wild West in Northern Nevada.
World-Famous Highway 50
Ever since Life Magazine called Highway 50 “The Loneliest Road in America" it’s become “the” bucket list drive for many.
Real Cowboy Country
For others, Highway 80 running east-west through Nevada’s unique Cowboy Country is the road to take. The terrain is still just as the settlers found it- a place where Nevada’s history and cowboy culture still live today. Get a taste of cowboy culture Nevada-style in this video and visit CowboyCountry.org to plan your trip.
Mountains, Caves and "Fire"
Start or finish your road trip in Las Vegas, so you can take Highway 93, “The Great Basin Highway” and visit 13,000 foot (not a typo) Wheeler Peak and the Lehman Cave system at Great Basin National Park.
Then check out the slot caves at Cathedral Gorge State Park and the sandstone cliffs at Valley of Fire State Park. You can also find Area 51 on the famous “Extraterrestrial Highway”.
Whether you drive an RV, SUV or motorcycle, Nevada’s many road adventures let you run free. Explore them in our collection of suggested itineraries at travelnevada.ca.
Try our new TravelNevada app! It works right across the state
When you come to visit, use the Travel Nevada App to find things to see, do, eat, or somewhere to stay. It tracks your location, tells you what’s nearby and it keeps working offline, so you can use it all over Nevada - even the rural parts with no cell service. We have a few of those. Download the app from the iTunes store or the Google Play Store.
