Shuswap Lake Estates has long been touted as the “British Properties of the Shuswap” originally marketed as a retirement golf community, it is now a place where you will find that families of all ages have planted their roots and proudly call it home.
Shuswap Lake Estates, settled on the banks of Blind Bay overlooking Shuswap Lake, came into being almost 50 years ago – way back in 1969. In 1970, shortly after it began, Jack and Irene Barker, originally from Saskatchewan, purchased shares in Shuswap Lake Estates and moved the entire family to the Shuswap in January 1971. With 5 children in tow they left -38 degree weather behind and never looked back! It was Jack’s vision that made this thriving community what it is today. As you drive around the Estates, you can clearly see the attention to details and all the hard work that has gone into creating the area. The mission to continue to grow the community is as strong today as it was back in 1969.
There are so many things that make this community unique, but one of the biggest attractions to visitors is the relaxed lifestyle, which makes this area one of the best places to raise a family or retire. Shuswap Lake Estates is about healthy active living, from a 18-Hole championship golf course, to tennis courts, marina and sandy beaches to driving range, and pickleball courts! There is also a beautiful community centre which is home to many different classes, events and fitness programs all year long. The community was thrilled to see the opening of a Medical Lab Service just this spring!
If that is not enough, then come tour the vineyards and taste the wine, explore hidden natural treasures, enjoy hiking trails galore, witness the amazing cycle of the salmon, listen to “Music in the Bay” during the summer evenings, or simply sit on your deck and revel in the peacefulness that is a constant in this area.
Phase 2 of the Highlands, with the BEST views of the lake are Copper Island is well under way with a vision to break ground for Phase 3 very soon. The Highland lots are stunning, large, freehold lots around ½ to 3/4s of an acre. Local residents, in particular, are excited about the newest, soon-to-be –under-construction strata development, Autumn Ridge. This will be a collection of beautiful detached rancher style homes, that will provide easy maintenance living, and allow retirees to focus on the things they love.
Blind Bay is just 26 kilometres west of Salmon Arm, or 85 kilometres east of Kamloops—a city of about 100,000. It is worth stopping by for a visit and you may want to stay for a lifetime!
