Story by Perry Mack, Photos courtesy Escape Trailer Industries
For many Escape Trailer aficionados, this is the trailer they’ve been waiting for - the 21’ 5.0TA 5th wheel. Following in the footsteps of existing 4 star rated (RV Consumer Group) Escape trailers, the 100% molded fibreglass body is truly lightweight and yet extremely rugged, one of only four units recommended for off-road travel by the RV Consumer Group, putting Escape at the top of their class. While you may not plan to haul your RV through the wilds of western Canada, or the nether regions of the Baja peninsula, rest assured the quality is there if the desire arises.
This combination results in years of trouble free service, a two-year warranty and an excellent resale value when you’re ready for a new model. A queen size bed, full bath, dinette that doubles as an extra bed, and natural oak cabinetry a part of an extensive list of standard features – many of which are options from other manufacturers.
Flaxen colours and large windows provide a bright, open, refreshing feel to the interior. Construction and design are the key elements to this lightweight, aerodynamic trailer. The final result is so good; some models can be towed without an appreciable change in the fuel economy of just a mid-sized car or SUV.
The fibreglass shells are composed of a top and bottom half, which are sealed together in the molds, resulting in a seamless construction. This shell is built around a frame constructed with 3/16” thick, 1 ½” x 3” steel tubing, eliminating any chance of fatigue. Rivets don’t hold your interior together, instead anchor blocks are fibreglassed into the shells’ interior and by mounting the interior walls and cabinetry to these points, and there are no unnecessary holes to the exterior.
You won’t find Escape trailers at you local RV dealer though, as they are sold factory direct through a unique referral network spread across Canada and the USA. It’s likely there are models available to view near you.
