No doubt many of you are ardent treasure hunters, combing the beaches and bleachers for lost valuables. If you haven’t tried this hobby, you could. It is low impact, gets you moving outdoors, requires little skill, and your reward can be more than ‘just’ better health.
The affordable Vanquish 540 from Mine Lab provides essential features that are appreciated by both experienced and novice treasure seekers. Perfect for travellers, it’s light at 1.3 kg (2.8 lb) and compact at just 76 cm (30 in) when collapsed.

Starting at the bottom up is the waterproof (to one metre) 12” coil with a protective skid plate. Wade through the shallow waters edge for items washed up after a storm. Using the included rain cover makes the rest of the detector water-resistant so you don’t have to wait for the sun to shine to get started.
It’s a complete kit which also includes wired headphones, four AA rechargeable batteries, a four-way USB charger and a Getting Started Guide. The 540 is the top of the Vanquish line and is equipped with Bluetooth if you would rather use wireless headphones.

It’s always better to find trinkets than trash and the right metal detector will. The heart of the Vanquish is the Multi-IQ technology, which quickly provides depth and identification of all metals regardless of soil type – salty, wet sand or mineralized soil.
The Iron Bias helps avoid the trash so you can home in on the treasure, and Pinpoint mode provides the precision necessary to help locate targets. It is like ‘plug-and-play’ devices, as it is ‘Turn-On-And-Go’. Once you power it up, the Vanquish auto-selects the best settings for the soil so there’s no need to set frequencies or ground balance.

If you’re ready for a new metal detector or looking for a ‘rewarding’ hobby as a detectorist, this could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
