Kuma Outdoors
It doesn’t take a lot of accessories or furniture to enhance your campsite.
Words by Steve Fennell
Quality aftermarket outdoor furniture, mobile power solutions, and even existing items you may already own can all combine to enhance your campsite. The longer you stay at an RV park, the more comfort and convenience are required. Several options are available online as well as at the upcoming winter RV shows.
Staples like outdoor rugs, exterior lighting, and even the tried-and-true campground picnic tables and firepits are very practical. They can also serve as a platform to build on and make your site extra functional and after a little thought and some minor expense, you might be surprised at the results.

Find a New Go-To Table
We’re fans of Edmonton, AB-based Kuma Outdoor Gear. In recent issues, we have featured the company’s plush Switchback Heated Chair, Bear Den Gazebo and compact 19” Bear Blaze Propane Fire Bowl.
For 2024, the company offers the new Camp Crew Coffee Table. It has a low-rise sturdy aluminum top and a weight capacity of 32 kg (70 lb) to accommodate beverages, food, and everyday items.
The top is supported by a powder-coated frame featuring a 2.5 cm (1 in) square folding system with a ‘CrossKonnect stable leg and table-top slider click-in system’ that combine to provide an easy, folding design. When in use, the table measures 43 x 90 x 70 cm (17 x 35.5 x 27.5 in) and has a height of 45 cm (17.75 in), making it a great addition to existing outdoor furniture layout.

Create a Well-Defined Cooking Space
Having an organized site provides a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. Campgrounds in provincial, state and national parks across Canada and the U.S. often have the basic amenities for cooking, dining and socializing. However, more remote RV campgrounds may not, and there are a variety of aftermarket solutions to enhance outdoor living space.
You can easily take meal prepping and cooking to a new level. Many designated outdoor cooking stations are available, which are lightweight and compact with space for portable BBQs, coolers, utensils and cookware. Sometimes less is more when RVing. Having one table with enough space for a grill, food prep, and essentials is all you may need.
We like The Camp & Go Expandable Camping Table in the Rio Gear series for its versatility and appealing looks. With a roll-top design, the table is based on a telescoping frame that extends from its base size of 71 x 69 x 70 cm (28 x 27 x 27.5 in) to 122 x 69 x 70 cm (48 x 27 x 27.5 in) if more tabletop space is needed. The legs can also be adjusted to accommodate uneven ground with the use of pin adjusters.
It has a 27 kg (60 lb) weight capacity, comes with a carrying bag and can fold down to a compact size for easy storage in a range of RVs. For easier cleanups and aesthetics, add a table cover as many are widely available.

Get Creative and Accessorize
Sometimes its the simple added touches that can make an RV site extra inviting. For instance, LED awning and string lights are practical, but lighting choices are vast and can create a cozy atmosphere in several ways.
The age-old lantern has come a long way since its oil origin. There are many modern options with varying light levels and stylish designs. Although one lantern may not have lumen-power to light up an entire site, three or four will and when placed in various areas - from tables and steps to branches or awnings - you’ll be provided with a simple yet efficient lighting system with a nice ambience
A good option is the 360° LED Rechargeable Railroad Lantern from Hokolight. With a size of only 14 x 11 x 10 cm (5.67 x 4.17 x 4.09 in), a weight of 10 ounces, and folding handle and carabiner, it can easily be transported around a site, set on a table or hung in a variety of locations.

The Hokolight also has high, medium and low light settings and can last between 8 to 11 hours on one charge. It also has a weatherproof design, battery indicator, and comes with one 3600mAh battery and USB charging cable.
Although choices are not limited to the Hokolight. Using two or three vintage lanterns are another option. In addition to providing the lighting you need, they can add a nice, aesthetic touch or be used for a table setting and in other areas of your site. The Hokolight retails for $53.00 USD and for online orders visit www.hokolite.com/
To further complement any outdoor space, some other accessories include covers for the picnic tables, matching tableware and glassware, and even plants (depending on the length of your stay) that can be placed as a centrepiece or hung from awnings.
Unique ways to enhance the living space at your next campsite are as limited as your imagination and creativity. With a little thought and some browsing at the upcoming RV shows or retail stores, you’ll be set for your next trip, which you’ll enjoy in more comfort and style.
