Camping and RVing British Columbia Coalition
Joss Penny
Rain or shine British Columbians love to get outside and play. The Camping and RV BC Coalition (CRVBCC) suggests the best way to celebrate the upcoming BC Day long weekend is to get outside for some fun, fresh air and festivities. This BC Day, celebrate our beautiful province by camping, picnicking, hiking or fishing.
"Camping is a great way to enjoy BC's natural beauty and there are several types of camping to suit all comfort levels," said Joss Penny, CRVBCC Chair and Executive Director of the BC Lodging and Campgrounds Association. "Whether you choose to tent camp, backpack or RV, BC is one of the best places to 'play' in the great outdoors."
For more information on campgrounds and parks in British Columbia, the CRVBCC website has an interactive Google map and trip-planning tool that plots over 1,500 campgrounds and stocked fishing lakes. In one location, campers can easily find all the different types of campgrounds located in British Columbia including: provincial parks, national parks, privately operated campgrounds and RV Parks, and provincial recreation sites. Tips and Tricks for a successful camping trip:
Locate a Campsite: Summer weekends are the busiest camping times so finding the perfect camping spot can be difficult. Pre-book long weekend camping spots at your favourite private campground, provincial or national park or use our Google mapping tool to find prospective sites before you travel. It's a fact that the closer to the Lower Mainland, the less likely there will be available space on the BC Day long weekend.
Camp Responsibly: Be respectful of other campers - for campsite etiquette please visit http://www.campingrvbc.com/how/etiquette/ for a few tips.
Camp Safely: Safety is everyone's responsibility, so be aware that unattended campfires can create forest fires. Campfire FAQs are available here: http://www.campingrvbc.com/faq/campfires/
Share the Experience: Blog, tweet or post the happy times on your social networks! Many campgrounds offer WiFi connectivity so that you can stay in touch with friends and loved ones. Tell us about your camping and RVing experiences on our Facebook page (facebook.com/bccampingrvcoalition),or tweet us photos of your favourite camping spots (@CampandRVinBC) and check out our new blog (http://campingrvbcblog.com/).
Events: The BC Parks Passport is an exciting program geared towards families, but BC Parks encourages everyone - especially those kids at heart - to join the adventure! Simply visit a participating BC Parks campground or a BC Visitor Centre to get your free passport. Then collect stamps/stickers while exploring British Columbia and earn fabulous, collectible prizes. For more information and an extensive list of BC Day celebrations in BC Parks please visit www.bcparks.ca and click on Calendar of Events.
