Overnight parking at a casino can provide relaxing breaks when you need one the most.
Words by Steve Fennell
In our last issue of Snowbirds and RV Travelers, we addressed many points about saving costs on the road. Boondocking was one of the topics we addressed. While it may not always be a viable choice during your travels, especially in unfamiliar territory, ‘casino camping’ is an alternative. While it is budget-friendly, it is also very convenient and there are many available when you need a break from the road the most.
Not all casinos have designated RV space on their property. Fortunately, many do across the U.S. and Canada and welcome RVers all year. While they are ideal for a night or two, remember services may be limited and expect a blacktop, boondocking experience.
Nevada, of course, ranks as the top destination in the U.S. for having the most casinos but it’s certainly not the only gaming state. According to www.playtoday.co, more than 43 states are home to casinos, offering a range of choices during your travels.

Many casinos in the U.S. are conveniently located along Interstate highways and byways.
Benefits of ‘Overnighting It’ at a Casino
Blacktop camping is nothing special but there are benefits to staying at a casino. Some are close to or along the U.S. Interstate to provide easy access and it;’s common to see on-site security that frequently patrols the grounds, thus providing peace of mind.
The larger and more established a casino is, the more amenities and services are available. For instance, many can accommodate larger rigs and once on site, restaurants, nightly entertainment, gaming, spas and more are within easy walking distance to enhance your stay. Shuttle services are sometimes available as well.
Casinos recognize the popularity of RVing. Some may even have on-site power or upgrades for an added fee while others have adjoining RV parks with a variety of amenities and easy access to the casino grounds.
Several casinos have more services and resort-style camping. A few popular options include The Lakeside Casino and RV Park in Pahrump, Nevada; Cocopah Casino and Resort in Somerton, AZ; and The BlueWater Resort & Casino in Parker, AZ, which has an RV park just adjacent to the casino. All have first-class services, dining options, and excellent gaming and also serve as great winter destinations.

Finding a casino to stop for the night can be as easy as a Google search or a quick reference on your GPS.
How to Find an RV-Friendly Casino
Locating a casino to park your RV for a night or two is as easy as a Google search before or during your trip. Casinocamper.com is another useful resource. It consists of a comprehensive directory categorized by state with details about casino locations, services, facilities, fees, and rules and regulations.
If overnight parking is not permitted, information about the nearest campground is listed. Casinos also may change their policies so always call ahead to ensure overnight parking is available and for other details.
Another way to find a casino with overnight RV parking is by visiting www.campendium.com. With many similar features like Casinocamper.com, it includes a star rating system and a plethora of free alternate choices in the area. Additional online resources include www.iOverlander.com and www.allstays.com

Casinos also offer space for larger rigs but always call about size limitations before you arrive.
Casino Camping Etiquette
Rules may vary from casino to casino but courtesy must be practiced at all times during your stay. Always check with security or management about specific regulations, length of stays, and if a trailer or fifth wheel can be left unattended without your tow vehicle. Also, be sure to:
- Maintain a clean site and avoid leaving garbage after you leave
- Limit your presence by avoiding setting up your ‘full camp.’
- Keep noise levels to a minimum and reduce the use of a generator (if they are allowed to be used).
If there is no fee to stay overnight, it’s courteous to patronize the casino’s restaurants, shops, nightly entertainment, and other services. In the event you like to gamble, spend time at a gaming table or slot room. You may also want to consider getting a player’s card where you can benefit from casino discounts and/or special promotions.
With the convenience and budget-friendly pricing, keep in mind that casinos can be very busy with concerts, special events, traffic, and associated noise of being close to highways. However, through research, reading online reviews, and even speaking with other RVers, you’ll be able to find the ideal casino for your needs to take a break from the road and then safely continue on your journey.
