Understanding your RV insurance policy is just one aspect to consider for the coming season.
Words by Amy Bradley
Spring is in the air, which means it’s time to take your RV out of storage and start completing many of the maintenance tasks to ensure it’s in perfect shape for the first of many trips. While it’s pertinent to make certain that all systems are functioning as they should, here are some additional points that should never be overlooked before hitting the road.
Understanding Your RV Insurance Policy
If your RV has been damaged over the winter, contact your insurance provider. Cold weather can take a toll on a number of systems (hence the importance of following a storage checklist in the fall). For instance (especially during a brutal winter), the weight of snow can cause the roof of your RV to buckle, which can result in several problems.
In the event your RV needs a repair(s) caused by snow and cold weather, keep in mind that some insurance providers don’t offer coverage for winter damage. This is why it’s so important to do your research when purchasing a policy. If you’re renewing your RV insurance for the 2022 season, now is the time to inquire about specific details of coverage. This is also the time to thoroughly review your insurance policy and notify your provider of any changes to your trailer or motorhome. Wayfarer Insurance specializes in RV insurance and understands your needs when it comes to protecting your unit.

Also be sure your roadside assistance plan is up to date prior to the season.
Update Your RV Roadside Service
If you have emergency roadside service (and we recommended that you do) make sure your plan is up to date. There are a variety of companies that offer these programs including The Explorer RV Club, which provides comprehensive emergency roadside service for every kilometre you travel - 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
For the cost, the roadside assistance offered by the Explorer RV Club is invaluable no matter where your travels take you. Services range from mobile repairs and battery boosts to lockout assistance, unlimited tow mileage, flat tire changes, and more.
A few other ways to ensure a trouble-free season is by conducting some basic safety measures in your RV. These include flushing out the antifreeze and cleansing the water systems, making sure electrical outlets and appliances are working properly, testing the smoke detector(s), and inspecting all tires for wear.
Having the appropriate RV coverage is invaluable. Wayfarer Insurance provides insurance designed specifically to address the unique needs that come with owning a trailer and motorhome. Our licensed brokers are available to provide peace of mind wherever the road takes you.
