Step 1
Remove the doors and examine the offending factory liners. You can see how beat up/worn they are.3 of 9
Step 2
Using a set of needle nose pliers, begin to pry out the factory liner. The top flange of the liner will likely break off in many small pieces.4 of 9
Step 3
With the majority of the top flange removed, it’s time to drive out the rest of the liner. Use a small sharp pick and hammer to drive the offending pieces out through the bottom.5 of 9
Step 4
Now it’s time to remove the second portion of the factory liner. Again, use your needle nose pliers to remove as much of the flange head as possible.6 of 9
Step 5
Similar to step 3, use a small sharp pick and hammer to drive the offending pieces through the bottom. Here you can see the second portion of the factory liner has been fully removed.7 of 9
Step 6
With both portions of the factory liner removed, it’s time to press in your replacement TMR Customs Jeep Delrin Door Hinge Liners. The liners simply press into place by hand. DO NOT HAMMER! If the new liner does not press into place by hand, it is being held up by the old sleeve or debris. Remove the old sleeve or offending debris and try again to press in place by hand.8 of 9
Step 7
Make sure the Delrin liner fully seats against the factory hinge. There should be no gap between the hinge and the flange of the Delrin liner. Repeat steps 1 through 9 for the remaining factory door liners on your Jeep.9 of 9
Step 8
Clean your factory door pins with a 3M Scotch-Brite pad, or emery cloth. Re-install your doors, and enjoy their proper fit. We recommend periodically cleaning your door pins for best performance.Photos & Story by Tim & Mike Rogers of TMR Customs
If you own a Jeep Wrangler (CJ/YJ/TJ/LJ/JK) it’s almost guaranteed that you’ve fought with the poorly designed factory door hinge liners. The liners deteriorate over time, resulting in sagging doors that provide a terrible seal against the elements. It’s also not uncommon for your doors to sag to the point where they make contact with the tub or door surrounds. If you enjoy removing your doors to soak up the sun on nice days, you know what a pain it can be if the factory door pins have rusted and are sticking to the factory door liners. The fix is simple – TMR Customs has recently designed a replacement set of Jeep door liners manufactured from Delrin. Delrin is a highly wear resistant plastic that is UV and chemical resistant and won’t absorb moisture – perfect for the exterior of a Jeep.
