Jeep Cherokee Diesel
Industry News Notes
Jeep just keeps the diesel train rolling with yet another announcement that they will be offering a new smaller diesel in the new Cherokee (we just reviewed last issue: Volume 16, Issue 1). The new 2.0L Multijet II four-cylinder turbo diesel debuted at the Geneva Motor Show and will be combined with a new nine-speed automatic transmission. The new turbo diesel is available in two versions offering customers a choice of 170 or 140 hp outputs, both generating 258 lb-ft of torque. The 170 hp version of the 2.0L engine is coupled with the nine-speed automatic gearbox, while the 140 hp version is matched to a six-speed manual transmission. Both versions of the 2.0L turbo diesel engine incorporate ‘Stop/Start’ technology that improves fuel efficiency and reduces CO2 emissions. At this time, the launch is a European only option and Jeep Canada comment that no changes to the current lineup are planned. We wouldn’t doubt that statement could quite easily change in the not so distant future.
