The internal sun/planetary gear sets are larger for better tooth engagement and torque transfer. Note how the ZEON gear set on the left is secured with 6 pins. The set on the right comes from WARN’s own M8000 series which has been their best selling winch for years.

With the gear sets stacked beside one another you can really see how much bigger the ZEON’s gear sets are.

The large engagement lever is made of stainless steel and makes a solid thud when moving the lock ring from open to locked to open again. Winch and Free spool graphics ensure the user knows what position the power train is in.

Machined from a single piece of aluminum to reduce the number of contamination/moisture ingress points, the spool is at the heart of the ZEON. Rope/Cable anchoring is accomplished by threading the line through the spool and around a special ‘puck’ and back into the spool again. There are no anchor bolts to snag your expensive cable/rope on.

The motor is completely sealed inside its aluminum housing and has improved windings to make better use of the voltage/amperage it needs to do its job. Thicker housing components have the added benefit of reducing motor and gear noise.

To give the ZEON longevity and reliability WARN chose to use stainless steel fasteners, double lipped spool seals (look at the spool cutaway) and various seals/o-rings to keep contaminants out. WARN is the only winch manufacturer that can thus far claim a true IP-68 (Ingress Protection) rating for their winch.

Control Pack is more compact and now employs copper bus-bar connections to give better power transfer from the battery to the winch motor and control pack. WARN does offer a few optional kits that allow the control pack to be relocated and even slimmed down if space is tight under your hood.

Four stainless steel screws secure the Control Pack to the bridge assembly so reconfiguring the ZEON’s control setup for user preference takes little time.

For the low profile look the Control Pack can be relocated under the hood. WARN’s Spydura line is sheathed in bright red material so the user knows visually they are literally near the end of their rope.

Ruggedized control should ensure years of problem free operation. A nice touch is the raised and embossed icons that ID motor direction.

The loop end for the synthetic line is beefy. Keeping the ‘eye’ of the needle clean will ensure long life of the synthetic line.

WARN does offer a cradle assembly for the ZEON and quick connector kits, which allow it to be mounted in any Class 3 hitch. Your part numbers are PN 32963 for a 20'/6m connection for rear of vehicle or PN 32966 for a 24'/8m connection.

What do you get when a manufacturer takes into account great tips and feedback provided by their customers - you get a winch that delivers on all fronts. For nearly three years WARN has been quietly working under a veil of secrecy to develop their latest paradigm shift in the industry. It’s faster, quieter, tougher and sleek. The first thing that makes the ZEON stand out is the fact that it’s symmetrical in design and jet black. At the time of the ZEON’s release in October this year there were to be five different models. Three have steel braided line and roller fairlead in 8000, 10000 and 12000 pound pull capacity models, two have WARN's Spydura synthetic rope and Hawse fairlead which have been dubbed 8S and 10S. So aside from the obvious exterior changes what else makes the ZEON so different? Well let’s give you a tour of the internals shall we? Oh, a piece of advice; if you’re in the market for a serious winch you might want to read up on IP-68 enclosure rating, an informed consumer is a smart buyer.
Aside from the great stealthy design and upgraded internals, an additional interesting point about the ZEON series is that despite the fact they come in three different pull capacities, the exterior dimensions of all ZEON models are exactly the same, its what’s inside that really makes the difference. All in all this is one exceptional product line that has delivered on what buyers want and need in a key piece of recovery equipment. Damn, now I have to get one... my wife is gonna kill me.
