Backroadz Tent
At a towering 173cm (5’8”) tall I can almost stand up straight inside – measuring it says 140cm (5’5”). Remember though you’ll also lose the height of your mattress.

The tent is fairly compact measuring a mere 70x20x20 cm in the bag.

There are two large windows on either side so you’ve got great ventilation – until you put on the rainfly. If it’s not going to rain and the temperature is agreeable outside – stop here.

All set up with the rainfly. It’s definitely unique; I had two people stop while driving by to ask questions. You won’t drive it down the highway like this but an easy drive around the block showed you could certainly switch campsites.

The truck tent is a unique concept in camping. It’s perfect for places where you can’t pound in tent stakes or find a flat dry piece of ground, like the side of a forest service road or highway rest stop. It sets up in under 20 minutes and comes down in 5 creating a comfortable sleeping area for two (even more comfortable for one).
I ordered the Model 13 tent for my Dodge Ram 1500 short box. Since the tent sets up with the tailgate down, so I had 2.5m to stretch out in, 1.25m between the wheel wells and 1.6m at cab for head & shoulders (roughly the size of an extended queen bed).
The tent is constructed of 800mm PU polyester taffeta. The 800mm is a waterproof rating – in this case, 800mm means moderate protection for light showers (summer). To give you a reference, 1200mm is high protection and 2000mm means you can camp in a tropical thunderstorm (but don’t - just check-in to a hotel).
The tent retails for around $190. For more info on the Backroadz Truck Tent from Napier Outdoors and to find a retailer near you visit www.napieroutdoors.com.
