In a land of outdoor treasures, this region stands out as an unspoiled and tranquil gem. Easily accessible by a 75-minute drive from Kamloops, the lakes temperature can warm to 27°C making it uniquely perfect for swimming, and your other favourite watersports, including fishing.
Angle for rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, kokanee, whitefish and ling cod, by boat, belly boat, canoe, or simply from shore. Reaching depths up to 90 meters, this lake provides a thermo cline for fish to escape to cooler waters during the heat of summer.
Grab a pair of binoculars and head out into the wilderness to spot shy deer, clever fox, allusive bears, soaring eagles, river loving swans, and haunting owls. Towering evergreens of fir and cedar border trails and old roads that wind their way through groves of aspen, birch, alder and willow. Hike, bike, or start your off-road vehicle and begin to explore the region on decommissioned logging roads.
And although you are immersed in the best of Supernatural BC, civilized amenities are within reach. Barriere Township offers a large grocery store, restaurants, gas station, curling rink, community parks including ball fields, and several accommodation options. Drive a short distance north and enjoy the lush greens of a beautifully maintained nine-hole golf course.
During the months of July and August, live entertainment plays every Friday in the local band shell. Bring your lawn chair and something to eat, or buy from the local food vendors.
Every Labour Day weekend the North Thompson Fall Fair Rodeo provides a fun filled experience - from parades, to chuck wagon racing, food and so much more. Don your cowboy hat and join the roughly 10,000 people from across Canada that attend this annual event.
Winter offers its own adventures like ice-skating, snowshoeing, ice fishing and snowmobiling. Snow sparkles in the sun on designated ungroomed cross country ski trails or drive an hour and a half to Sun Peaks for their groomed alpine and cross country trails.
Wake up to the sounds of birds chirping, see quiet deer moving through the morning mist, or revel in the setting sun splashed across the lake. The spirit of East Barriere Lake will capture you too.
