One of the best ways to increase your hook up ratio when Kokanee fishing is to add double snelled hooks to your Kokanee rigs. More and more tackle companies are providing this option on their lures due to its effectiveness.
The rig is essentially a double herring rig that has been used for years by Salmon anglers throughout the world. By adding the second hook to the lure, called a trailing hook or a stinger hook, this allows for an improved hook set into the fish.
Kokanee are very aggressive fighters and they can pretty much bend their bodies in half. This makes the lure pry against the fish and pop the hook out. Add the fact that Kokanee have soft mouths and this one of the reasons why Kokanee can be so difficult to land. When the fish twists and fights the second hook drives into it’s mouth for a solid hook set. This decreases the amount of fish that get lost throughout the day.
There are various ways to tie this rig and every angler has their preferred method. In this video you will learn a simple way.
