Keeping Live Bait On
Written by Danny Coyne
More and more often we're seeing the addition of “barbless hook” regulations, which is a great conservation method for some fisheries. One of the challenges that when using barbless hooks and live bait is the challenge in keeping the bait on the hook and in position. One great tip to help keep that bait in place is by adding a small piece of soft plastic bait on the hook after putting the live bait on. The soft plastic is somewhat sticky and will grip nicely to the metal hook reducing the bait to slide off. This method works great especially when jigging or trolling a dew worm. The small piece of plastic also adds extra attractant and sometimes even scent to your bait!
