Westview Marina & Lodge
The Tahsis Salmon Enhancement Society was out on the Leiner River last week collecting salmon for their hatchery. Thanks to the volunteer efforts of this hard working crew, the salmon population is thriving in this area.
Nearly 300 chinook, chum & coho were caught and taken to the recently rebuilt holding ponds at the Tahsis hatchery, to await egg ripening. They aren't ready to spawn yet but were caught now because a huge weather event is about to hit the area. This will spread the fish out and move them up river, where it is very difficult to catch them safely. Nearly 20 volunteers participated on this successful day of chinook capture.
Tahsis Salmon Enhancement Society president Frank Collins thanks the many volunteers for this and last week's Tahsis River capture. A big thankyou also goes to photographer Karli Yanchus and you, the donors, who make it possible.
