Westview Marina & Lodge
We have had the best Labour Day weekend fishing that anyone could remember in years.
The “T” was on fire for springs/chinooks/kings - 25-29.5lbs with springs common every day. The Pins produced lots of halibut from 15-55lbs. Tatchu Point to Rugged Point was hot for ling and other ground fish.
From the off-shore line into the seaward side of Catala Island, schools of coho and chinook were stacked up with the average coho this past week weighing 15lbs. Inside fishing was good from Catala Is. to Steamer Pt.
Why is it so good? Sea conditions and weather in general. Surface water temperatures dropped to 13°C, the brown algae and jellyfish are gone, and the winds were down. All of this made for perfect catching conditions.
More good news - Most of the local rivers are filling up in the lower pool areas with chinook and coho. Hatchery and volunteer crews will be netting spawners for hatchery stock all week long, weather permitting. Hatchery management is confident that the required egg counts to meet goals for chinook will be met.
