Coho are in Good numbers. We get two strong returns of Coho/Silvers each season - now and in mid-August through September. The second run has bigger Coho (20+lb) but the first run is usually larger in quantity. In fact you may be saying "heck it's another Coho" while seeking Chinook/Spring/King. What a nice problem!
DFO fishery notice released June 1, 2015:
All of Esperanza Inlet - 6/1/15 to 12/31/15 you may retain four (4) Coho per day, hatchery marked or unmarked. Same with MOST of Nootka Sound with the exception of Area 25-7, which is from Friendly Cove to Maquinna Pt., where it is two (2) Coho per day 6/1/15 to 8/31/15 hatchery marked only. Then on September 1st to 12/31/15 its four (4) Coho per day hatchery marked or unmarked.
That is all Good stuff. Regulations say you can retain four (4) salmon per day, only two of which can be Chinook. Eight (8) salmon is the possession limit, only four (4) may be Chinook. So now you can fill out your daily salmon limit with COHO.

Chinook - lots of fish around - 14-20 is the norm for now. Limits are a daily thing. We should start seeing larger fish as we move further into June & July. Hot spots are off Ferrer Pt. and Beano Creek. Both are the same - fish in 75 to 85ft of water, put your lines at 60 to 70ft, fish with anything that looks like a WHITE GLOW squid and hold on, you will load up the fish box.
This Fishing /Catching season is stacking up to be the BEST in many years. If you have not yet made your reservations for moorage, accommodations, meal packages, fishing charters, etc. you should do it today - info@westview.com
