The year of the Big Coho
Westview Marina & Lodge
Mark Tatchell (left) and Jim Ovenell with their 17 lb cohos, caught this week around Centre & Catala Islands.
It's been a few years since we've seen coho/silvers this large in Esperanza Inlet. In fact it's difficult to catch a coho under 11lbs, with the average being in the 13.5lb to 15lb range right now. A few have already hit the 17lb mark, as in the pictures, and by mid-September the Esperanza coho will cross into the 20+lb range.
This large coho cycle seems to happen every six years.
