Island Cup, Hardcore Racing and Ultra4 in Glen Helen
Just when I think things can’t possibly get any busier, they do. I need to stop thinking like that. Reverse psychology, right? In all honesty, I do enjoy the hustle and bustle of life. Keeps a guy like me on his toes, which is good because I don’t like sitting around.
So, what’s new and exciting?
I just got an email from the fine folks that run and organize The Island Cup letting me know that I have been accepted and will be competing in October. I have started to hear from some of the other applicants that have also been accepted, and I can tell you that this will be the event of 2015. All of the big hitters in the local scene will be there. Also, there will be competitors from neighboring provinces and the US. After what we witnessed last year, many people want to participate in this event and that can only mean good things for the competition. Competitors will have to bring their “A” game and that will mean a great show for the spectators. I will keep you posted as info comes in, but set the dates in your calendar for October 2, 3 and 4 and plan to be in East Sooke on Vancouver Island for a few days.
Also coming up is the Hardcore Racing Canada (HRC) Race in Alix, Alberta on June 26, 27 and 28 and will be Canada’s premier off-road challenge. I am not sure if my schedule will allow me to be there, but I will be sure to bring you all the event info as soon as it crosses my desk. Hosted at Tail Creek Raceway, which was home to the Highrider’s Challenge that has graced these pages many times before, HRC will be a true test of man and machine. I’m sure anyone who has been there will remember how sticky the mud is. I will remind you now, to wash it off your skin before it dries!
Up next in the Ultra4 series is the infamous race at Glen Helen in San Bernardino, California. I have talked about this many times in the past, but again, it is not a race you want to miss. Glen Helen is one of my favourite tracks and always proves to be a true test for the hardest of the hardcore races. I have one word for Glen Helen. Attrition. Again, I’m not sure if I will be able to attend, but I know my boy Brady from Pathmaker Productions will be down there taking pictures for us all to enjoy.
That reminds me. Speaking of Mr. Brady Melville and Pathmaker Productions. Everyone should check out his new blog. Brady is on a four-month long tour through Canada and the States taking photos at racing events, National Parks and anywhere else his creative mind takes him. His passion for photography truly shows in the images he captures through his lenses. From racing to scenery and landscapes, be sure to follow along with his adventure. www.pathmakerproductions.com/blog
If you have any news, ideas or events you want to share with the world, feel free to hit me up and I will gladly pass it along on these pages. I would love to hear from some of you in the East about anything you may have going on in the racing scene. Shoot me an email to info@familyglass.ca and I look forward to hearing from you.
Stay safe and see you on the trails.
