As Twin Anchor Houseboat Vacations enters its second season at Old Town Bay Marina since its move last June, local boaters and visitors alike will benefit from the many new services and amenities for the 2018 boating season. Twin Anchors initially started plans for the new marina and location in 2005.
Located right on Shuswap Lake, approximately 5 km (3 mi) from Sicamous, BC, James Hodgson, general manager of Twin Anchors Houseboat Vacations, explains among the many key benefits of the location is the ease of on-water access, spacious grounds, and deep, open water.
"We were previously located right in the Sicamous channel with constant boat traffic and we had a Canadian Pacific Rail bridge to contend with," says Hodgson. "The houseboats couldn't fit under the bridge to access the open water, so we had to wait to get the bridge open in between the trains for access. Also, in August, with low water levels, the marina would become half the size. There's nothing like that now at our new location as we are located in a deep water bay. Plus, only two houseboats could be brought in at one time to the slips at our previous marina, now we can bring in six houseboats at a time."
Some other key highlights for house boaters – and local, recreational boaters alike – include on-site public fuel docks, new pump-out stations, a dock store (for ice and other sundries), plus a new concrete boat launch with ample parking. Hodgson further explained that new, composite docks stretch more than 396 m (1,300 ft) offering ample room for added convenience. There are also 188 new private slips available for seasonal moorage.
"The location makes it easier for everybody," says Hodgson. "Overall, we now provide a relaxing boating atmosphere to visit. Plus, we're located outside of Sicamous in the middle of nature. Basically, we now have more services and less stress, allowing boaters to get out and enjoy the area much faster – and much easier."
Twin Anchor Houseboat Vacations offers up to seven different houseboats available for rent, that can sleep from six to 25, and provide that ideal vacation for family or friends on Shuswap Lake.
