Yamaha Marine Group said it has a new mechanical-control version of its 300-hp 4.2-liter V6 Offshore outboard. It’s available in left- and right-hand rotation and should be available this summer.
“Yamaha Marine is dedicated to providing premium boating experiences for all of our customers, and we believe it’s important to incorporate a variety of choices throughout our product line to meet specific boat applications and customer demands,” Yamaha Marine Group president Ben Speciale said in a statement. “With this new model, customers now have the choice of mechanical or digital control for the F150, F175, F200, F225, F250 and F300 models.”
The digital electronic control and the new mechanical control F300 offer the same features, power and performance.
Yamaha’s 4.2-liter offshore models have big-bore V6 displacement due to plasma-fused sleeveless cylinders. This technology increases displacement without enlarging cylinder diameter. This keeps the overall package more compact, and Yamaha said the new V6 Offshore Mechanicals are more than 50 pounds lighter than their 3.3-liter predecessors.
Fuel delivery is carried out by an electronically controlled single-throttle valve and Precision Multi-Point Electronic Fuel Injection that makes these motors as much as 17 percent more fuel-efficient, Yamaha said. Additionally, they offer better low- and mid-range punch and better fuel efficiency.
The 4.2-liter motors could be a good choice for repowering. In most cases there is no need to change out controls, and Yamaha said it offers a wide range of propellers with its Shift Dampener System, which distributes and absorbs vibrations and sounds when an outboard is shifted into gear.
