The International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference was addressed by National Marine Manufacturers Association president Thom Dammrich, about the current thriving marine industry and the steps needed to ensure its long-term success.
According to Dammrich, the marine industry must do more to attract a younger and more diverse audience, as the average age of today’s boat owner is 58, and the average first-time boat buyer is 46. The number of households that own boats is declining, but the rate of decline is slowing.
With the changing demographics the industry must do a better job reaching a more a diverse customer base and engaging millennials. There needs to be more focus on the lifestyle, where the industry allows them to see themselves in the boating lifestyle.
