A new Simrad autopilot range is designed for sportfishing boats and other powerboats. Simrad said the range increases accuracy and integration via NMEA 2000, and the company has added Continuum Steering to the entire line.
Simrad said the new autopilot products are powered by the NAC-2 for boats as large as 35 feet, or NAC-3 for boats larger than that, and feature an autopilot computer that can drive inboard and outboard engines.
“Simrad has an unparalleled legacy in autopilot technology,” Navico CEO Leif Ottosson said in a statement. “These new system components build on that legacy and further demonstrate our commitment to provide boaters with the easiest to use, most reliable and accurate autopilot systems on the market.”
Simrad said the AP44 Autopilot Controller is a 4.1-inch color display with rotary dial and button controls and glass-helm styling. The controller offers access to Automated Turn Patterns, No Drift Steering, Depth Contour Tracking and other pilot features. It can be connected with a chart plotter to enable waypoint and route navigation, the company said.
The IS42 Color Instrument Display integrates with the NSS evo2 and NSO evo2 multifunction displays and glass helm systems. Simrad said the IS42 can function as an instrument display or as a standalone autopilot controller — when paired with the OP12 — aboard smaller vessels. Users can see wind, speed, depth, engine data and autopilot status or add the optional OP12 wired remote to take full control of the autopilot system.
The new autopilot components are scheduled to ship this month.
