Seapilot, a provider of AIS products and navigation solutions, said it released the Seapilot Navigation app premium subscription service.
The app’s new features include automatic updates of preferred chart data; innovative social boating functionality; real-time weather forecasts and routing (GRIB); race planning with Polar and GRIB files; and NMEA connectivity.
Seapilot said the subscription service is available for iOS and Android mobile devices.
“Today over 30 percent of electronic navigation is done on smartphones and tablets, and the percentage is growing rapidly,” Anders Bergström, executive chairman of True Heading AB, parent company of Seapilot, said in a statement.
With the help of Seapilot’s Social Boating Facebook integration, users can see friends that have attached their Facebook account to an Automatic Identification System target. The app allows users to search for friends’ boats or find them through a menu where connected Facebook friends are displayed. Boaters also can share routes and notes with friends.
“We put professional navigation technologies, AIS boat tracking and up-to-date nautical charts on your mobile device in a user-friendly way,” Bergström said. “The Seapilot Navigation app makes coastal areas safer through accurate readings of where you are and where you’re heading. With our new features, such as social boating, race planning and weather forecasting, Seapilot is the future of mobile marine navigation.”
