Georgia Strait Alliance & 1% for the Planet
25 Years on the Waterfront: Value to our economy and quality of life
More than 75% of British Columbians live on or near waterfront along the Georgia Strait. The waterfront is our home, and it’s also where we live, work and play. Founded in 1990, the Georgia Strait Alliance (GSA) has been working with the community, businesses and experts to find science based solutions to the problems and issues that have threatened Georgia Strait for 25 years.
To celebrate its 25th anniversary, GSA and 1% for the Planet are hosting a special event on Tuesday May 26 at 5 pm, at the stunning Tap & Barrel (Vancouver Convention Centre) to talk about the benefits of a vibrant waterfront, and some of the grave risks to our waterfront, as the recent bunker fuel spill in English Bay has made all too clear.
Our featured speakers include:
- Peter Raab, local real estate agent & 1% for the Planet member
- Spencer Chandra Herbert, Vancouver West End MLA
- Christianne Wilhelmson, Executive Director, Georgia Strait Alliance
- Mike Rowlands, 1% for the Planet representative in Canada & Principal at Junxion
Join in on our discussion on Vancouver’s waterfront, its value for our local economy and quality of life, and the many reasons a healthy marine waterfront benefits all of us: residents who live and play on or near the water, the many businesses – in tourism, shipping, recreation and other industries - that depend on the waterfront for their livelihoods, or the individuals and organizations who work for better coexistence between our urban activities and the preservation and restoration of our natural habitats.
Come join us for appetizers, refreshments, guest speakers, and door prizes and learn more about how you and your business can get involved in protecting the Strait.
This event was made possible by the generosity of Peter Raab, Personal Real Estate Corporation. For tickets and more information click here.
