This year is a big year for Canada and Ontario. 2017 marks 150 years since the coming together of four provinces to form the Confederation of Canada. As one of the original provinces, Ontario is celebrating its sesquicentennial too. Celebrate by taking in one of Canada's favourite pastimes: Camping! With many events planned, this is the year to explore the province and all it has to offer.
Canadian Camping Week Promotions
To kick off the camping season, Camping In Ontario is excited to once again offer the following special promotions to celebrate the Canadian camping experience. Participating campgrounds will offer one or more of the following promotions:
- 2 nights camping for $50.00 plus taxes (Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27, 2017)
- 5 nights camping for the price of 4 (May 22 - 26, 2017)

Things to do to celebrate Canada's 150th
Big Nickel Light Show - May - September, Sudbury
Sudbury’s famous Big Nickel monument will be dazzlingly illuminated at night from May to September. Using drones for projection mapping, visual effects, music and sound, the 15-minute display (on loop) will tell the mining town’s story.
Drinks of Walkerville Walking Tour - First Saturday of each month, Windsor
Named an Ontario Signature Experience, the Drinks of Walkerville tour celebrates what is unique and exceptional about Canada’s southernmost city, including a tour inside of North America’s largest distillery.
Enjoy a hands-on tour of the Hiram Walker & Sons distillery, learn the history and brewing process of Walkerville Brewery, then finish off the tour discovering street art at The Willistead Restaurant.
The Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation’s Pow Wow - June 4 & 5, Manitoulin Island
The Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation’s Pow Wow on Manitoulin Island on June 4 and 5 is the first of nine traditional events through the summer of 2017, ending with the M’Chigeeng First Nation Pow Wow on Sept. 3-4.
Tall Ships - July 4 & 5, Niagara-on-the-Lake
Tall ships visit River Beach at Niagara-on-the-Lake, one of Ontario’s prettiest towns and the original capital of Upper Canada.
Portage to Peterborough - starts July 5, Peterborough
Paddling camps at the Canadian Canoe Museum. It’s worth the portage to the Peterborough museum, which has more than 100 dugouts, kayaks and canoes.
The Breathing Hole - July 30 - Sept. 22, Stratford
The Breathing Hole, commissioned especially for the sesquicentennial, premieres at the Stratford Festival’s Studio Theatre. The play explores the history of interactions between the Inuit and Europeans from 1534 to present day.
