2018 Tuna/Coho Derby

EVENT INFORMATION
On August 26, 27, 28 and 29, Nootka Marine Adventures will be holding its 3rd annual Tuna/Coho Derby in the waters off Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet. This year, the winning fish will be a Coho Salmon unless tuna fishing becomes a viable option, in which case the winning fish will be an Albacore Tuna.
An orientation will take place at Newton Cove Resort on the evening of August 25. Newton Cove Resort will serve as headquarters for the derby, where the fish weigh-in and prize ceremonies will take place.
This year there is a $100 per contestant entry fee.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register with Guest Services in advance of arrival. All participants must be registered guests of Newton Cove Resort. Participants must be present for the prize presentation in order to qualify.

OUR PURPOSE
Our Tuna/Coho Derby is designed to raise funds for salmon enhancement and habitat restoration within the Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet watersheds.
The net proceeds from this event go toward the Nootka Sound Watershed Society and the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
Our goal is that by actively promoting and participating in these essential projects, we will bring awareness of the importance of environmental programs to the angling community.
NOOTKA SOUND WATERSHED SOCIETY
The NSWS is a group of local community members including First Nations representatives, biologists, sport fishermen, industry representatives, and stewards with the common goal of working to protect, restore, and enhance Pacific salmon stocks in the Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet watersheds.
