Introducing Campertunity, a website designed to bring camping into the shared economy by allowing private landowners to list their land for campers to book. Dubbed the "Airbnb of Camping" by the media, Campertunity unlocks backyards that boast open spaces near lush forests, lakes, and mountains.
"We share everything from our cars to our homes, so it only makes sense that we share our backyards," says Nora Lozano, co-founder of Campertunity. "Canada is the second-largest country in the world, so why is it this hard to get outside?"

It was Nora's own frustrations with camping that led to the creation of Campertunity. In 2016, while camping in a Provincial park, Nora pitched her tent on her small, reserved gravel plot only to wake to the noise of RVs driving by and camping neighbours just a few feet away. "It wasn't the connection with nature that I was hoping for."
With prices as low as $5 per night for a last-minute place to park your RV, or as high as $120 per night, where hosts provide all your camping gear and fresh Canadian bacon for breakfast, having an array of options for campsites on private land is a relief from the mad rush to book in government parks.
Feedback from hosts and campers has been positive, with one user stating "it's about time we have something like Campertunity." Statistics Canada reports that over 27 million people have camped in Canada from 2017 - 2018*, with even more growth expected in the upcoming years. With these trends continuing, the supply must meet the demand.
What to expect while camping on private land varies, but it includes building community by bringing people together. Horseback riding and even goat yoga are just some of the perks that Campertunity hosts may offer, making camping more adventurous. If a quiet, secluded area is more your taste, then find them readily available, too.
While creating happy campers, Campertunity also has the effect of helping hosts sustain their land. "We want to promote the Canadian economy by increasing agri-tourism and allowing hosts to earn an extra income," explains Nora, "Many hosts are farmers, so camping on farms is a fun way to learn about farm life and see your food go from earth to table."
