Williams Lake Stampede
By Lorne Doerkson
Dust off your inner cowboy for the 89th Annual Williams Lake Stampede
Come experience the real west and enjoy hospitality second to none from June 26 to 29, 2015. This rodeo is held on the same site as it was in 1919. Back then our cowpokes were locals showing off their talents. Today you’ll experience one of the most professional shows in Canada. We have cowboys travel here from all over North America to compete at our rodeo.
Our whole community gets involved and hosts a variety of family activities and entertainment. The folks of BC’s Lake City love to roll out the welcome mat for our guests while they enjoy and adrenaline filled action-packed rodeo.
There’s no shortage of things to do at the Williams Lake Stampede. The rodeo features Canadian Professional Rodeo Association action including one of the world’s most dangerous events – bull riding. Cheer on the bareback and saddle bronco riders. Marvel at the finesse and timing of ladies barrel racing or take in a thrilling steer wrestling or tie down roping showdown.
These events and more all come together to create days of family fun. We’ll have five rodeo performances, two on Friday and one performance each on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The Williams Lake Stampede also has the ever-popular Mountain Race. Riders and horses zigzag down the hill and onto the track for the dash to the finish line in front of the grand stand. It’s extreme rodeo entertainment at its best!
Bring the whole family for a town wide parade, a street party, a barn dance, Cowboy breakfasts, Crash to Pass, a rugby tournament, Canada Day celebrations, and of course, the Stampede itself.
Come for the rodeo and stay for a night of fun. Mosey on over to the Let ‘R Buck Saloon Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. for live entertainment that will have you tapping your toes and scootin’ your boots all night long.
Don’t worry about driving; you can stay at the Stampede Campground. The staff lives on the premises and are here to help. There’s everything from tenting sites to 50 amp full service sites. If you prefer, we have plenty of lodging in Williams Lake from inns, to motels and hotels. The rodeo grounds are in the very center of town so you can walk to all the rodeo activities and events from wherever you’re staying.
Getting here is easy. Williams Lake is in the heart of the interior of the British Columbia. It’s located approximately 550 kilometers north of Vancouver, and 240 kilometers south of Prince George.
You can find us by driving down Highway 97, or fly in with several flights a day leaving and returning to Vancouver International Airport. For a great sightseeing experience, get a ticket and hop aboard a train. BC Railway provides a spectacular passenger trip by rail through the scenic Fraser River Canyon from the coast to the interior where the original stationhouse from the early 1800s is your get-off point in Williams Lake.
