Why would I buy a trailer now? It's about to snow! This is a question most people I talk to at this time of year have, believe it or not, and it’s a great one.
For some reason, people who camp tend to think that it would be a ridiculous or unheard of option to purchase their new, or new to them, travel trailer or park model just before the snow flies. I was under that same impression for a few years myself. However, after listening to customers who have purchased from me over the fall and winter months, it is actually becoming more and more popular to have the new trailer now. This way they can either get it to the campground and set it up now while the ground is hard, or leave it here until the spring and be first in line to have their new trailer delivered to that special campsite. Whichever the case may be, it is a growing trend. I personally like it for a couple of reasons.
One of those reasons would be to make sure you can get the floor plan or trailer style that you like most. Some call this the supply and demand factor. It makes perfect sense when you think of it. Let’s face it, the US economy is thriving again and they are buying trailers as well, so the supply from our manufacturers decreases because of it.
Another reason is that you will get maximum camping time in next season as there is no need to be travelling from dealership to dealership wasting time looking for the perfect new trailer. You will have already had that part of the process completed.
And finally, there is always the “well if we wait and purchase in the spring there might be better deals” approach. That way of thinking is still around but here is my take on that. When do manufactures start getting their new product for the upcoming year? If you said it started a few weeks ago, you would be right. Let’s say I own a dealership, and I ordered 150 new travel trailers, but I have a few left over from the previous year on my lot taking up valuable space. Wouldn’t I be more focused on trying to sell those leftover’s to make room for my new inventory that is arriving daily? The answer is yes. So with my eagerness to sell leftover stock, I can sweeten the pot a bit more for the buyer with perks such as reduced pricing, factory incentives to help reduce the cost, or winterization of your new trailer (which comes in handy this time of year).
I could go on and on, and obviously it would be different for each situation, but I think you see my point. So what are you waiting for? Take the plunge now and get out there. Purchase that new travel trailer, park model or motor home now before the snow flies and maximize your camping time next season. Save some money, get a fantastic deal, and get the floor plan you want that works best for you before they are all gone. Get it set up now and be stress-free at the beginning of next season; maybe even surprise your camping neighbour’s in the process.
I hope you enjoyed reading my thoughts and the thoughts of many of my customers who have purchased from me during the late fall and early winter. It really does make sense when we think about it. I mean let’s face it. If your concern is that you do not want to purchase now and pay for 6 months without being able to use it, I get that, but it will happen eventually anyways; whether it happens now or at the end of camping season right?
