Hellwig Products, a leading manufacturer of sway bars and tow/haul suspension products, debuted its 2016 Nissan Titan XD diesel overland truck and camper at the 2016 SEMA Show. The overland camping pickup truck, dubbed the “Rule Breaker,” is equipped with a customized Lance Camper and products from the leading off-road manufacturers in the industry that give it true “go anywhere” capabilities.
According to a press release, the all-new 2016 Nissan Titan XD diesel was the perfect platform for an overland camper. With its powerful Cummins diesel engine and high payload and towing capacity, the Titan XD has no problem providing enough power to haul around the custom Lance 650 truck camper riding in its bed.
To keep the load level, Hellwig products installed its “Big Wig” 2,800-pound air springs, allowing the driver to fine-tune the load support and ride quality and level the load front to back and side to side. To improve driver control both on the highway and on backcountry roads, Hellwig installed its new forged adjustable rear sway bar.
When it came time to truly transform the truck into a true overland monster, Hellwig turned to the expert team at LGE-CTS Motorsports in San Dimas, Calif. First on the docket was adding more ground clearance so that the truck could easily navigate rough terrain. To accomplish this, Hellwig had a Stage 3 Suspension Kit by Icon Vehicle Dynamics installed to raise the vehicle 3-inches. Next, a Fab Fours bumper, Baja Designs lights, Magnaflow DPF Back Stainless steel exhaust and sidestep bars by N-Fab were added while a Warn winch, Factor 55 winch shackle and a custom hitch mount was added to the front bumper to allow the winch to quickly be moved to either end of the truck. Both the truck and the camper get their power from an OPTIMA Battery, and lastly, a set of Weathertech floor mats were added to make cleanup a breeze after a dirty camping trip.
For traction in any terrain and in any weather, Hellwig turned to Falken Tire and equipped the truck with a set of LT325/65R18 Wildpeak AT3W all-weather off-road tires and mounted them to a set of 18-inch Method Roost wheels. Then, to keep the larger tires inside of the Titan’s wheel wells, a set of Bushwacker Pocket Style Fender Flares were installed and a Hypertech programmer was used to recalibrate the vehicle’s computer for the tires’ larger diameter. To add a little more style to the build, Hellwig also installed a T-Rex X-Metal grille to the truck’s hood.
Because the “Rule Breaker” Titan is destined to see lots of use on unpaved roads, the camper needed to be as secure as possible in the bed so that it doesn’t move around. To keep everything secure, Hellwig turned to Torklift for a set of Fast Gun tie downs and Talon frame mounts. Finally, to keep the warn winch and Lance Camper secure on the truck, Bolt Locks provided a receiver lock as well as a trailer coupler lock.
