If you were already intrigued by the Airstream Inc. lifestyle, wait until you see the trailer for Alumination, a documentary about the celebrated travel trailer that is slated for completion in late 2017.
The Mens Journal reported that for three years, filmmakers Eric Bricker and Lisa Hughes, producing partners behind the award-winning Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman, immersed themselves in all things Airstream. Originally drawn to the streamlined trailers from a design perspective, they quickly saw the passion of Airstream owners and enthusiasts.
“I think the only other community surrounding a brand such as this one is Harley-Davidson,” says Bricker. The pair then shifted their focus to the people and culture around the iconic brand.
“The Airstream trailer serves as an entry point to a much larger story: what people do with them and how that impacts their lives,” Bricker says.
From weekend warriors to those who give up all possessions to live full-time in their toaster-on-wheels (and the vintage trailer restorers and food truck proprietors in between), these silver bullets bring joy to their users by enabling them to fulfill their dreams — and with unique style. The shared experience and pride that comes with following the road less traveled creates a common bond. “Airstreams and the mobile lifestyle are natural incubators of human connection and community,” Bricker says. And by the looks of the film’s trailer, it’s a colorful community for sure.
