In its 25th year, the RV Owners Lifestyle Seminars, scheduled for June 17 - 20 at Okanagan College in Kelowna, BC, is set to present three full days of educational seminars on a variety of topics to enrich experiences on the road.
Hosted by the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association of BC (RVDA of BC) incorporation with Okanagan College, the event invites potential, new and even seasoned RVers to learn about a number of best RV practices from expert speakers and manufacturers in a social and stress-free environment.
“The concept of the event is to assist potential and existing RV owners to get the most out of the RV lifestyle,” MJ Wiggins, the Executive Director of the RVDA of BC told Snowbirds and RV Travelers magazine. “RVers usually have many questions after a few trips and the seminars can essentially expedite the learning curve so they can be on the path to total enjoyment much faster.”
Founded by Al Cohoe, a former department chair and instructor at Okanagan College who recognized a need for more RV resources, the event will showcase more than 40 seminars ranging from RV maintenance and travel tips to healthy living on the road and the joys of full-timing.
Wiggins explained the technical seminars will be presented by staff of Okanagan College’s RV, Heavy Duty and Automotive Department and will include detailed insight on propane and electrical safety, appliance and driveline maintenance, as well as tire safety and care. A short seminar will also be held to provide information on RV operating costs and routine upkeep.
“RVers need to understand how all of the components of a motorhome or trailer operate and when they need to take it to an RV service centre,” says Wiggins. “Usually mechanically-inclined individuals attend the technical seminars while their partners will go to the lifestyle sessions.”
Seminars about RV travel are also scheduled to offer details about visiting unique and popular destinations. Presented by expert wagon masters and experienced RV travellers who have ‘been there, and done that,’ the open-door sessions will include trip tips, the importance of preparation and more about visiting The Baja, Mexico, Northern British Columbia and other exciting destinations in Canada.
To complement the travel seminars, a series of sessions are scheduled on towing tips, which according to Wiggins, is presented by one of the largest manufacturers in the RV industry. Among the many topics, attendees will learn how to set up a travel trailer and fifth wheel to properly and safely tow their rig to a destination.

While registration includes a wine and cheese reception Friday night, live entertainment Saturday evening, and a catered dinner on Sunday, visitors can dry camp in their RV at a designated location on the east side of Okanagan College campus throughout the event.
Devised to provide an opportunity for attendees to further mingle and socialize among other enthusiasts, this part of the event is very popular and a great way for new or potential RVers to check out the models and speak with experienced enthusiasts. Washroom and shower facilities are also available.
“The event is designed to give information back to the attendee,” says Wiggins. “Approximately 85 percent of the RVers who attend camp on-site to enjoy the camaraderie over the weekend and at the portable campfire rings at night, which allows excellent interaction in a vibrant, social atmosphere.”
