Enjoying the fresh air and bright sunshine after a long winter is just one of the perks of RVing in the spring.
Words by Wayfarer Insurance
As an RV enthusiast, you don’t want to restrict your favourite experiences to just the summer, which can be short depending on where you live and even limited based on the time you may have available. To enjoy a few extra months of camping, get a head start with a series of spring RV trips. In addition to extending the season, there are many reasons why so many enthusiasts hit the road earlier than later.
1. Take Delight in the Comfortable Weather
Aside from the common spring showers, spring weather can be ideal for camping. The cooler temps mean you can spend time outside without worrying about the risks of heatstroke, sunburns, and dehydration from extreme summer heat. Nevertheless, you should still apply sunscreen, especially if you’re at higher elevations and always stay hydrated. Overall, you’ll feel more comfortable travelling and enjoying outdoor activities.
2. Fewer Insects
Mosquitoes, ticks, and flies are all present in spring, but their numbers aren’t nearly as high as they are in the summer. But you should still pack bug spray and wear long pants in wooded areas.

Campgrounds are less busy this time of year, which means you can enjoy some peace and quiet at more popular RV parks.
3. Less Crowds
It is always interesting to meet new RVers but imagine taking your time to explore at your own pace and experience activities and attractions without the crowds. Plus, you can enjoy popular campgrounds more and stay in prime sites, which commonly fill up quickly in the summer.
4. Observe Wildlife
As the rising temps and sunshine entice you to go outdoors, wildlife also relishes the spring weather. It’s a time when you can watch a variety of species frolic, feed, and play. Since spring is the prime birthing season, you’ll likely see plenty of new-borns. Always view wildlife from afar and remove any garbage promptly to a designated location.
5. Conserve Your Budget
Campsites, RV rentals, and tourist attractions are generally less expensive during the off-season. That means you can save some money in the spring.
Planning Makes All the Difference
Planning and being prepared ensures smoother getaways. As anyone north of the Mason-Dixon line can tell you, a snowstorm can sneak up on you anytime in the spring. So, if you’re driving a little to the south or north, make sure to be prepared for inclement weather such as snow. This means having a shovel and other ideal recovery gear in the event you get stuck. Also, bring lots of water, keep your fuel tank as full as possible, and travel with warm clothing.
Spring is often the time to renew and review your insurance policy as well as your roadside assistance plan to ensure you have the right coverage and support in the event of an unforeseen incident.
