The ERS program won’t leave you stranded if your RV breaks down on the highway or in remote areas.
Words by Maryanne Paul
No matter how prepared you are when RVing, you may still need mechanical assistance at some point during your travels. Nicole and Regine learned this when their 2006 class A had wheel bearing issues during an extended trip through Pennsylvania.
They are Explorer RV Club members and previously purchased the association’s Emergency Roadside Service (ERS), which is available through the club’s group discount program. After calling the designated toll-free number, they were connected with Alex and Allen of DTR Services who towed their motorhome to their shop in Harrisburg, PA.
While the parts required needed to be specially ordered due to supply chain issues, Dusty, the owner of DTR Services, allowed Nicole and Regine to stay in their RV on the property for five nights. They were even provided electricity, fresh water, and WiFi.
The Difference Between Auto and RV Roadside Assistance
If you have emergency roadside service for your car, truck or SUV, you may wonder why you need it for your RV. Both provide towing and onsite repair, but some auto roadside assistance services fall short of covering RVs since they are vastly different in size, design, parts and systems.

Enjoy the benefits of the expert service of qualified technicians.
In the event of a breakdown and to ensure your unit will be properly towed and repaired by a qualified technician, emergency roadside service for RVs just makes sense.
There are also many additional benefits of ERS so you can get back on the road as quickly as possible. For instance, members of the Explorer RV Club’s ERS have access to an exclusive group rate (as well as for cars, trucks and SUVs) and the program is available when travelling in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. Additional Benefits of Emergency Roadside Service
While emergency roadside service is not mandatory, it is recommended. The program can protect your investment and significantly reduce inconvenient and potentially expensive delays.
Here are a number of reasons why it's important to have the Explorer RV Club’s Emergency Roadside Service program:
- Professional service and assistance are available 24/7.
- Efficient and professional towing. When your RV won’t start or has a major mechanical issue, a professional, licensed, and insured service provider will properly tow your RV to the nearest qualified service centre.
- Towing assistance is available when your unit is stuck in rough conditions or terrain.
- You have the benefits of getting your RV fixed quickly after breakdowns (depending on the mechanical issue).
- Locksmith services to access or start your RV.
- You may receive reimbursement for a rental car, lodging and food if you break down a certain distance from home.
- Assistance from a travel concierge professional. While your RV is being repaired, assistance is available to help arrange a hotel or rental car, rearrange travel plans, find the nearest ATM and contact family or friends.
- You may save on added costs compared to other roadside service programs.
- Gain peace of mind. Experiencing a breakdown on the road is never fun, but it can be even worse when you’re in an area you’re not familiar with.
