Ford Motor Co. listened to their Explorer customers requests for more interior space, towing capability and performance with the sixth-generation Explorer.
The 2020 vehicle will be on sale this summer starting at $33,860. It's more expensive than the current version but the base model includes more than a dozen new standard features, including a power liftgate, Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of driver assist technology and Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Explorer was redesigned on a new sportier rear-wheel-drive, unibody platform. This seven-passenger crossover provides more space for families and can tow up to 5,600 pounds.
The base engine, a 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four, is expected to get 300 hp and 310 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a 10-speed transmission.
4WDrive magazine expects this will be the same engine and transmission combination in the soon to be released 2019 Ford Ranger, which proved to be a stellar powertrain in this mid-sized pick-up. View the video review below or click here.
