We’re ready to get started on our next project - a Dodge Dakota snow wheeling rig! Watch for the upcoming teardown on our YouTube channel and articles in 4WDrive.
We have a drivetrain that will be going into the upcoming project truck (thinking about calling it the “SnowQuota”). It is a 1998 Dodge Magnum 5.9L engine from a ¾ ton pickup. Attached to it is a 46RE 4 speed transmission and a New Process 241DLD transfercase.
We are going to tear the engine apart and do a through inspection before ordering any parts for a rebuild. This is not a “penny pincher” type build, but it’s also not a “Budget be dammed!” build like the Merican Metal Menace AMC done a few years ago. For now, this is just separating the drivetrain components and taking a peek at what we have to look forward to in terms of build costs.
