Sports stars and SUVs go well together, and it’s not just because the S in SUV stands for “sport.” Simply, SUVs boast a refined ruggedness; they are elegantly built, but are nonetheless powerful, versatile, and ready for all sorts of road conditions. It is this combination that makes SUVs attractive to celebrities across the world, many of whom own one or several vehicles. So without further ado, here are some the world’s biggest sports stars and their SUVs.
LeBron James
LeBron James
James is arguably one of the three most recognizable athletes in the world. Like all sports stars he has a garage full of enviable vehicles, ranging from supercars to SUVs - notably a Hummer H2. Cheat Sheet notes that the H2 was one of James’s first big purchases once he turned pro, and a favourite of his for quite some time. With his huge salary and ginormous endorsement deals, The King can buy any vehicle he wants, and he has done exactly that. He even bought a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon just in case the planet’s best player needs the world’s best off-roader.
Tyler Seguin
Tyler Seguin
Like LeBron James, Canada’s own, and current Dallas Stars alternate captain, Tyler Seguin owns a number of cars. One such car is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class AMG, a mid-size SUV that combines luxury and rugged power. The Benz reportedly set Seguin back as much as $300,000 (CAN$394,229), though we reckon that’s money well spent. It's both beauty and beast, after all. That’s especially true since the G series got a boost in 2016, as reported here on Sun Cruiser Media.
Andy Murray
Andy Murray
The now-retired Murray has had quite a career. He made a name for himself through his tenacity as much as his talent, and his headstrong relentlessness has paid off handsomely. A feature article by Coral places Andy Murray as the fifth highest earning tennis player of all time and his success in winning three Grand Slams is why he is considered Britain’s greatest ever Open Era player. His success has also allowed him to buy some expensive vehicles, like the all-electric Jaguar i-Pace, for instance. Renew Economy reports that Murray bought the i-Pace as part of his years-long commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness. Murray, of course, is a WWF ambassador, so his recent choice of car isn’t exactly a surprise.
Manny Pacquiao
Manny Pacquiao
The fighting senator from the Philippines loves cars, and he has quite a few of them. And one of his favourites is a Lincoln Navigator second-generation model. He uses this beast extensively for long-distance treks, and even for his daily commutes. Given the road conditions in his native Philippines, this preference is not much of a surprise. What’s surprising is that he prefers to use the Lincoln even during prefight preparations. Pacquiao also owns a Mitsubishi Pajero for good measure.
