Jeep® and the FCA Foundation returned to Vancouver to celebrate Canada Day with Life-size 2016 Jeep Wrangler ‘Canstuction’
The Jeep® brand, FCA Canada and the FCA Foundation – the charitable arm of FCA US LLC – teamed up once again with the international non-profit organization Canstruction® Inc. to celebrate Canada Day in Vancouver. Together, they returned to build the popular, life-size 2016 Jeep Wrangler out of canned-goods at the city’s Canada Place celebrations.
Using 5,000 full cans of non-perishable food, the Canstruction Jeep Wrangler was donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society following the event. The structure took approximately 12 hours to build on June 30. Partially assembled by local-area students and scouts, aged 12-18, it highlighted Canstruction and the FCA Foundation’s goal to raise awareness for hunger and poverty though community service and the importance of instilling science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills in young people.
“After the success of last year’s build, it was a natural decision to return to Vancouver for another Jeep Wrangler Canstruction event,” said Reid Bigland, president and CEO, FCA Canada. “This effort reinforces FCA Canada and the FCA Foundation’s commitment to helping those less-fortunate, while also propelling youth towards success though skills in science, technology, engineering and math – all while having fun.
“The event was also a unique way to celebrate Jeep’s 75th anniversary in 2016 and its recent, fourth consecutive year of global sales records. Last year, Jeep sold more than 1.2 million units, which played a part in FCA Canada becoming the nation’s number-one selling automaker.”
This second-consecutive Jeep Wrangler build in Vancouver marked the fourth time FCA Canada and the FCA Foundation have partnered with Canstruction Inc. Other build events have included a full-size Ram pickup in Calgary in 2014 during the city’s famed Stampede and a life-size Dodge Grand Caravan in Toronto‘s Yonge-Dundas Square in 2013.
Collectively through these Canstruction partner events, FCA Canada and the FCA Foundation have donated some 59,500 cans of food since 2013.
