2019 Chevrolet Silverado RST
The 2019 GM Silverado is available with a new four-cylinder 2.7 L I-4 turbocharged engine.

General Motors has ramped up its engine options for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 to include a new four-cylinder 2.7 L turbocharged engine that can run on just two cylinders, providing increased fuel economy – and savings at the pump – while offering optimum power when you need it.
Available as standard for the new Silverado RST and Silverado LT models, the 2.7 L I-4 turbo offers 310 hp and 348 pound-feet of torque with an eight-speed auto transmission. When it comes to on-demand power, the company explained the 2.7 L I-4 can accelerate from 0-to-60 mph in less than seven seconds, making it ideal for highway travel and a series of other applications.
According to GM, the 2.7 L I-4 turbo is designed to take the lead in fuel efficiency over the Ford F-150 with its V-6 Ecoboost engines (to include the 2.7-liter, 6 cylinder engine) and the redesigned Ram 1500 with its hybrid system. It’s also said to be the first modern four-cylinder engine used in a full-size pickup and the first that’s capable of running on two cylinders.

2.7L Turbo with Active Fuel Management and stop/start technology
The 2.7 L I-4 turbo offers 310 hp and 348 pound-feet of torque with an eight-speed auto transmission.
The 2.7 L I-4 turbo is designed specifically for many, often demanding truck applications and said to offer comparable payload capabilities of 2,000 pounds – with increased torque – to the Ford F-150 XLT 3.3 L V-6 and the Ram 1500 Big Horn 3.6 L V-6.
Another benefit is the 2.7 L I-4 turbo houses GM's Active Fuel Management system – the first use of the system by the company for a four-cylinder engine – that operates in two different cylinder modes. It also incorporates the new Active Fuel Management technology that can alternate between two and four-cylinder modes.
In addition to its many highlights, six powertrain configurations with six engines and three transmissions (including six-, eight- and 10-speeds) will be available on the Silverado and Sierra for 2019. While the four-cylinder engine is just one of two new powerhouses for these pickups, the optional Duramax 3.0 L inline-six turbo diesel will be available later in 2019. It’s joined by the 4.3 L V6, which is standard on three entry-level Silverado models and three V-8 engines, including an updated, optional 6.2 L (420 hp/460 pound-feet) and two variants of the 5.3 L (355 hp/383 pound-feet). The latter is an optional work truck engine featuring active fuel management, along with a standard version with dynamic fuel management for the Silverado LT TrailBoss, LTZ and High Country models.
Production for the pickups is scheduled to begin this fall.
