Brighter, lighter, LED lights have arrived every year for some time now. And while we appreciated our upgrade a few years back, tossing out the Wranglers’ anemic Easy-bake oven headlights, we haven’t been motivated to replace our current LED’s (they’re not cheap) until now. Speaker’s Evo J3 (by the way, the company is named after the Speaker family, not a speaker manufacturer) is a game changer and ours are on order. It is the first DOT approved, plug and play headlight with a built-in turn signal. But like the man with the Ginsu knives says - ‘that’s not all’. The SmartHeat version has a heated lens for those nasty Canadian winter conditions to keep your lights shining down the road.
The low beam is 75% better than the already good J2, and the high beam is dual burn, which means the low beam, stays on while high beams blast down the road.
The Marvel comics ‘superpower’ is in the new J-link app, which is downloaded to your phone making it a stellar off-road headlamp. Switch to off-road mode via the app and you can direct the full force of the LED’s down the trail, adjust for a wider beam, or even a down low mode for rock crawling. There are still more specialized modes and given that the app can be updated with new software, new features are inevitable.
One of the honours we enjoy at the SEMA Show each year is the position of a Global Media Awards Judge. I pick my top ten favourite products for Canada, and if those new products get enough votes, they get a Global Media Award (and a couple free drinks).
I usually end up with more than ten, and although I feel Canada should get more votes, no one else does. As a result, here are the products we chose and a couple who we wanted to vote for.
