Sufix® 832
Rapala
Selecting the best fishing line can be overwhelming and misinformation further muddies those waters. Let’s make this task easier by dispelling the top four fishing line myths.
Braid is Abrasion Resistant
The HMPE (high modulus polyethylene) braids offer all sorts of benefits over other types of line. Braid is stronger than steel with less than 3% stretch, making it the most sensitive line category. However, it is not the best line to use when it comes to abrasive situations (snags, zebra mussels, etc). That is until the launch of Sufix® 832, which includes a strand of high performance Gore® in the line, increasing its abrasion resistance over that of any other braid on the market today. If you need an abrasion resistant line with low visibility, then fluorocarbon has become to the go to line for this application. Clear and manageable the Sufix® Castable Invisiline would fit the bill perfectly. Special formula nylon monofilaments are great too. Nylon lines designed for this purpose are cheaper than fluorocarbon, and typically easier handling as well. Sufix® Siege offers 15x more abrasion resistance than most other nylon lines on the market.
Fluorocarbon Stretches Less
Arguably the biggest line myth is that fluorocarbon is more sensitive than nylon monofilament simply because it stretches less. Fluorocarbon does have less stretch (average 25%) than most nylon monofilaments (average 28%), but the difference is nearly discernable by anglers until the nylon begins to absorb water and become more elastic. Fluorocarbon is more sensitive from the first cast to the last, so something more is in play here. Much of fluoro’s sensitivity stems from its density and its ability to telegraph vibrations. This increased density also makes the line sink, reducing line bows seen while fishing floating lines – the angler ends up with a more direct connection. Sufix® 100% Castable Fluorocarbon will give anglers the benefits of fluoro with the manageability of a nylon line.
Green Is Less Visible
Fluorocarbon is the least visible line under water, but there are times when anglers need the characteristics of braid. Most reach for low-vis green line thinking this will disappear in a dark background. Keep in mind that fish look upwards at a bright sky and mirror like reflections off of surface water. For this reason light lines become very hard for fish to see. Light colours also make the line more visible to the angler, allowing even slight movements to indicate strikes. Try Sufix® 832 in Ghost colour to maximize this effect.
Nylon is Old News
Where the elasticity of nylon monofilaments are detrimental to some presentation, for others, like big fish hunters, they are a savior. Big hits from giant fish will put undue stress on rods and rigging, will straighten or bend hooks, and even break lines. This is why big water trollers and hog bass flippers have stuck by these shock absorbing lines since their inception. A premium line like Sufix® Elite will handle all of these situations perfectly. Nylon floats too, making it an ideal topwater line that won’t pull the hooks from that fish of a lifetime.
