Chilliwack/Vedder River - Aug 2/17
The river is now on the low side due to the lack of rain. However, good numbers of red springs will move into the river over the next few weeks. Keep in mind sockeye are also in the system and need to be handled with care. The fish have moved into the deeper pools or hiding in the riffles with the lower water.
Try fishing at first and last light when the sun is off the water. Finding a deep pool with holding water will be a key to finding these fish. Various methods can be used, but by far the most popular is fishing good size chunks of roe. Springs love roe! The river also holds good numbers of Bull Trout, Whitefish and Rainbow this time of the year. These fish can be caught using beads, small spinners and flies.

Interior Lakes Report - Aug 2/17
The smoke isn't stopping the fish from biting! We are still hearing excellent reports from the interior; some of the lakes are starting to produce huge "bomber" hatches of chironomids. Also make sure to keep a couple dry flies on hand - the morning and afternoon can produce some fantastic dry fly fishing. Try some caddis patterns such as Tom thumbs and elk hair. Nothing is more exciting then seeing a huge rainbow swim up and slurp your fly from the surface. Some lakes to try this time of the year are Tunkwa, Lac la Jeune, Roche and any of the higher elevation lakes.
